Nov 2008 | Vertigo

Writing: G. Willow Wilson
Art: MK Perker
Colour: Chris Chuckry
Letters: Jared K. Fletcher

First off, while I don’t care for Vertigo art, this issue has it’s moments where the composition and subject matter negates any other faults of the art. There are moments in this when I can actually connect with on an emotional level. A frame will just grab me, or a line. This is the issue that started grabbing my attention. This is where some of the puzzle pieces are starting to get sorted out and fitted, and it only gets better from here.

At this moment you feel something people used to call sacred, and i believe it helps you to see things as they truly are.

What, you mean love? love will heal the world? love conquers all? all you need is love?

oh no the highest emotion is not love.

It’s longing.

Such beautiful words…

The first issue was a poor, but necessary beginning. Everything that happened just set itself up for the rest of the story. So many weird things going on and not knowing the significance of anything, when it starts to begin making sense the magic starts happening. And now, we’re getting into the mystery surrounding Narimar, mainly it’s location and how to get there, which they do manage only they don’t receive a very friendly welcome.

My only hope is that it keeps improving. It’s such an interesting story and setting. I don’t want it to crumble like Vinyl Underground.
