My Boyfriend is a Vampire Vol. 1

CoverSep 2013 | Seven Seas Entertainment

Everything: Yu-Rang Han

Gene (Yo Da-In in the original manwha) is a pretty boy, so pretty he constantly gets mistaken for a girl. He also happens to be the leader of his high school’s gang. His life turns upside down when he’s bitten by a vampire and transformed into…. a girl.

I sat for several long minutes staring at a blinking cursor on my tablet, processing what I had read and trying to discern the emotions I felt. The best answer I have is a strange numbness and skock–a disbelief of me having read the entire first volume in one sitting. I typically can’t do that for attention span reasons, despite the good quality.

This is a weird, merely because I don’t even know where I stand with it. It’s school gang drama with vampires thrown into the mix and I would say it was yaoi until our main character turned into a female vampire, or ghoul-thing. These gender switching stories can be interesting and good or really terrible. I’ve only read one other I liked called Click.

The art is okay. It’s pretty clean which I like in my manwha. I don’t like messy stuff as I have a hard time following things sometimes. However, the guy still looks like a guy to me. He’s not really drawn overly girlish or even tomboyish, so everyone mistaking him for a girl confused me a bit. I knew the two characters on the cover were boys. I got over it easily enough and it’s not too big a deal.

I still don’t know how I feel. I can’t even think of any notable moments to share. Heck, I can’t even tell if I liked it. I felt pretty bored when I sat down to start it, and I feel mostly confused right now as I try to pull any reactions of worth from me. The best I can devise is a lack of having even made an impression at all besides being weird. I shall have to think hard before I decide to get the second volume when it becomes available.
